I recently got to play Happy Wars on my PC. For those who do not have it, until July 30, they are giving away free 100 Happy Tickets (which I got).

The game was very slow, even on 800x600 resolution. Never did it manage to get to 100% speed. I did not try out multiplayer, because I heard out-of-spec computers get kicked off.

Load time was avewraging around 3 minutes.

For those of you wondering, here are my specs:

  • CPU: AMD Sempron 140 @ 2.7 GHz
  • GPU: (Integrated) nVidia 6150
  • RAM: 2GB
  • Power supply: ~150-200W
  • Storage: 500GB HDD
  • OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
  • Sound: Onboard with motherboard

Yes, this was a pre-built system. Also, the parts are crap compared to your average gaming rig.

So my plans are to build a new computer from scratch. This system will be totally better than my current system and up to par with current gaming rigs. I do not plan to go all-in and get the best of the best when it comes to gaming. I do approximate this to be in the $1000 range. Besides Happy Wars, I do expect to do some emulation (Gamecube/64/SNES) and occasionally play 3A games. If I have not told you, my current system runs SNES/N64/etc. emulators optimally (64 with minor speed drops). However, when emulating a Gamecube, it does not run at full speed (except at the menus).

Also, I plan to overclock.

My proposed specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-4670k
  • Mobo: Z97 mobo (ATX form factor, make and model under consideration)
  • PSU: Corsair HX750
  • GPU: Evga-built nVidia GTX 750
  • Storage: 1TB HDD with 120GB SSD
  • Cooling: Xigmatek Dark Knight (Nighthawk Ed.)
  • RAM: 2x4GB
  • Sound: Onboard with motherboard

I do not expect to excecute this until September. What do you guys think about my plan? Also, do feel free to tell me about your gaming rig.
