As you can see in this photo the Sturdy Stick has an item buff of Attack Up lv1 and Attack down lv1.

Buffs and Debuffs power up or weaken your character respectively and can be found on a variety of items and in-game abilities.

For the buffs that have a level after them, the higher the level, the stronger the effect. Buffs of the same type and level can't stack; but buffs of different names or levels can stack. Eg: Attack Lv1 (+80) and Attack Lv2 (+120) would equal +200 to the attack stat, but two identical enchant buffs or two Attack Lv1 buffs would not stack, or if a weapon has both an Ice Enchantment and KO ability, the enemy struck can turn into a snowman or get knocked out, not both.

Skill+ buffs give the equipped player that skill from the beginning of the match, like Rush+. Skill+ buffs available to an equipment type are tied to the button that the skill corresponds to. Weapons have A skills, Armor gets Y skills, and Headgear gets B skills. Items cannot have more than one Skill+ Buff (like Rush+ and Smash+). If the weapon, armor, and headgear all have Skill+ buffs, the player can learn a total of 9 skills.[1]

Ambush Attack Up Increases damage done from behind your opponent.

Cleric Slayer Multiplies damage by 1.4x against Cleric class

Warrior Slayer Multiplies damage by 1.4x against Warrior class
AntiMaterial Up Causes more damage to bridges, castle walls, and castle gates as well as built materials such as Balllistas, Flower Cannons, and Rams . It has no effect on Towers.

Construction Speed Up Makes building Towers, Ladders, Ballistas, Flower Cannons faster. Also makes taking down Towers faster. (makes hammer a 24k gold hammer)

Material Points Up Increases Happy Star and Material Point value of any item sold or used as material for upgrade.
Lv1 = +100, Lv2 = +300, Lv3 = +600
Smash Power Up Increases the distance foes travel when hit with an ability with smash effect (smash, rush, charged attack, windtraps, lightning strike, bomb rocks, meteor shower, napalm, cannonade hits, birdy tower blasts). Also, if smash effect is on a weapon, it will increase distance foes fly when regular attacks cause smash.

Fire Enchant Effect Fire Enchant is automatically applied to the weapon. Increases physical damage done to opponents. If applied to Mage weapon, the Mage will be able to fire larger, more powerful fireballs.
If Dispelled, or used for a powerful spin attack (Warrior and Cleric only) effect returns in 10 seconds.
Ice Enchant Effect Ice Enchant is automatically applied to the weapon.  Chance on hit to KO your opponent (forcing them to shake their stick in order to regain control of their character) by turning them in to a snowman.  If applied to Mage weapon, the Mage will be able to fire ranged ice blasts that, if hit, will cause the opponent to be turned in to a snowman (KO).
If Dispelled, or used for a powerful spin attack (Warrior and Cleric only) effect returns in 10 seconds.
Freeze Crusher Increases Damage to frozen Enemies
KO Effect

KO is automatically applied to the weapon.  Chance on hit to KO opponent (forcing them to shake their stick in order to regain control of their character). Magic attacks have decreased chance.
Only foes who have been KO'ed can be dispelled.

Now has levels, Lv1, Lv2 and Lv3 (Update brought this)

Note: Any weapon with the KO effect before the update will be replaced by a KO lvl 2 effect.

Lightning Enchant effect Lightning Enchant is automatically applied to the weapon.
If Dispelled, or used for a powerful spin attack (Warrior and Cleric only) effect returns in 10 seconds.
Shock Crusher Increases Damage to shocked enemies. (Enemies under lightning debuff).
Smash Effect Smash is automatically applied to the weapon. Chance on hit to knock your opponent in to the air (distance based on any smash power up bonuses).
Stun Effect

Stun is automatically applied to the weapon.

Now has levels, Lv1, Lv2 and Lv3 (Update brought this)

Note: Any weapon before the update with the Stun effect will have a Lv2 buff.

Stun Crusher Increases Damage to stunned Enemies
Wind Enchant Effect Wind Enchant is automatically applied to the weapon.
If Dispelled, or used for a powerful spin attack (warrior and Cleric only) effect returns in 10 seconds.
Item EXP up Increases the amount of EXP earned for that item. (Update brought this)

Dash Attack Power Up Increased damage for the dash attack. (Warrior only, forward + X)
Rapid Stab Power Up Increased damage for the stab attack. (Warrior only)
Charged Attack+ Charged Attack is available from the start. Warrior Item Only
If the weapon is used for a Berserker class, Charged Attack will be available from the start with Double Spinning Blade in the middle slot. If a Skill+ buff is used on the Berserker's left and right weapons, the skill from each weapon will be available from the start with Double Spinning Blade in the right slot.

Accessory Buffs

Cannon Shots Up Increases the number of shots available on cannons.
Lv1 = 38% more, Lv2 = 69% more, Lv3 = 100% more
Conserve AP Use less Ability Points for abilities.

Happy Dance Makes character dance and plays music for all players in the area. Triggered when (i) standing still for too long; (ii) select one greeting (with RB) while standing.

Debuffs

There are also debuffs in purple. They have opposite effect of their buff counterparts making them bad for battle. As a rule of thumb try to avoid wearing items with Debuffs on them.

These are removable via Item Modification.

Buffs that are orange, cannot be removed. 

Item Modification

Item Modification allows you to move a buff from one item to another, or remove a buff completely. In order to move a buff, you will need an empty spot on the item you want to modify, and an item of the same type and class with a white buff you want to transfer. Once you have selected the buff you want to transfer, the cost for the buff transfer changes based on the type and level of the buff. Remember that the material item used will be destroyed.

To remove a white buff or purple debuff completely, you can pay 400-1600 Happy Stars depending on buff/debuff, converting it into an empty space. 

You can also use Happy Tickets instead of Happy Stars as payment.

Notes

The class slayers work against Engineers, Beserkers and Zephyrs as they are just advanced versions of a class type, they are still contained in that class.
